Statement from 75th House District candidate Teona McGhaw-Boure on Coronavirus

I can feel the fear in the residents of my district. The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially designated the Coronavirus or COVID-19, as a pandemic. I am concerned because I recognize that with racial inequality and the health disparity that exists in black and brown communities, residents in my district are even more susceptible to viral outbreak. So I hope everyone stays calm and limits involvement in public activities and stay away from crowds as much as possible.

Here's what the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the WHO say that we can do to reduce our risk of infection.

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with an alcohol based hand rub/sanitizer or wash them with soap and water

  • Maintain at least 3 feet distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing

  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes, nose or mouth

  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze with a tissue or into your bent elbow

  • If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately
